Stunning accidental dark ale
While stumbling to make a beer quickly (the taps ran dry without any spare kegs to put on - <insert panic here>), I stumbled upon a simply stunning beer.
It came out very like a James Squire Golden Ale, but a bit darker. Stunning.
Here is what it was:
Black Rock Draught 1.75kg kit (present, I would never have bought it myself).
1 can of Caramalt liquid Extract
500g Dry dark malt
1 x "tea bag" Amarillo Hops - dry hopped
Whatever spare kit ale yeast I had nearby (the draught kit yeast was out of date - and I rarely use kit yeast).
SG 1052 - FG 1008
I fermented 7 days at 20deg (temp controlled), then kegged and purged air. Sat it in the fridge for a few days to chill/settle on low gas (I find it settles any cloudiness down to that first half glass pour - all clear after that).
Those who have tried it, cannot believe it was homebrew from a kit.
It was close to the best beer I have ever made. I luv accidents like that.
